Fuses on Christmas light string blows immediately. Any reason besides too many strings together?
I have a snowflake decoration with LED bulbs that blows both plug fuses immediately when plugged in. I know that if you link too many strings together, the first string is responsible for all the current needed for it and the following strings which is the reason fuses usually blow. So I tried plugging it in all by itself and the fuses still blow immediately. (I can even see the flash and hear the pop)
I looked at the string pretty closely and don't see any exposed wires or something like that. Any ideas what else could be wrong?
It's got a short in it , in reality that's what fuses are for ,blowing on overload is kind of a secondary benefit. Replace or eliminate the problem string.
It's really not worth the time or effort to trace a short in a $10.00 string of lights.
